The Florida association of Crime Stoppers (FACS) is an umbrella organization operated by a volunteer board of directors from individual Crime Stoppers programs throughout the state of Florida. The aim of FACS is to support and encourage the establishment and continued operation of  local Crime Stoppers programs who encourage the members of their communities to assist law enforcement in their fight against crime.

FACS is a not for profit association that provides training, assistance and support to the thirty two (32) Crime Stoppers programs that service sixty-three (63) of Florida's sixty-seven (67) counties. The various programs in communities statewide fund FACS through membership dues. The organization hosts several training conferences every year to provide for training and networking opportunities for the member programs.

Does Crime Stoppers Work?

The answer is quite simply yes. Since the start of Crime Stoppers, member programs have received calls resulting in thousands of arrests and the recovery of substantial amounts of property. Calls have included information which has solved cases such as murder, robbery, rape, assaults, drug and firearm offenses.

The success of a Crime Stoppers program cannot be purely judged on statistics, however, other benefits have been noticed such as:

  • A greater awareness in the community that there is a crime problem.
  • A willingness by the community to fight back against crime if it is given the opportunity and motivation.
  • Improved relationships between police, media, and the community.

Crime Stoppers is definitely here to stay. It has been accepted by police as a valid and effective investigative tool and the public, through its overwhelming response, appears to have accepted it as a more palatable alternative to traditional methods of giving information.
