About Us

In June of 1977, just one year after the very first “modern day” Crime Stopper program was formed in Albuquerque New Mexico, The Central Florida Crime Line Program Inc. registered as a Florida corporation, making it one of the earliest such programs in the world and first of its kind in Florida.

Not long after, other programs began forming throughout the state such as; Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, Crime Stoppers Council of Broward County, Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County and Crime stoppers of Miami Dade.  Soon the need for these programs to come together, share their ideas and experiences was apparent. These programs, along with others helped form, what was then called, the Florida Association of Crimelines Anonymous, in 1981 and incorporated in1983. Other programs followed, and the organization changed its name to; The Florida Association of Crime Stoppers, in 1991.

As the membership grew, it was apparent that traditional fundraising and private donations would no longer sustain many of the programs, due to their success.  This prompted the FACS organization to spearhead the creation of what became the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund 1998. This Fund, which is administered by the Office of the Attorney General, collects approximately five million dollars annually through fines imposed on criminal cases in each county, and provides the much needed funding for the individual programs.

Today, FACS member programs provide 24 hour services in almost every county throughout the state of Florida. FACS continues to be a leader in the Crime Stoppers community, both nationally and internationally through its association with similar organizations such as Crime Stoppers USA and Crime Stoppers International.

Our Goal

The Florida Association of Crime Stoppers aims to support and encourage the establishment and continued operation of local Crime Stoppers programs, to coordinate the establishment of standards and protect the autonomy of our member programs.Through this, we hope to promote better communication between members of the community and law enforcement to assist in their fight against crime.

Our Goals include:
  • Supporting existing community and school Crime Stoppers programs.
  • Encouraging and assisting the growth of community and school Crime Stoppers programs throughout Florida.
  • Helping Crime Stoppers be the most cost effective crime solving tool for law enforcement.
  • Building a strong communications network among Crime Stoppers programs, law enforcement, and the general public.
